About Wayne

Photography has been one of the constants in my life.  I knew exactly what I wanted to do career wise from age 6 and up.  I was going to be a geologist!  I worked towards a major in geology and spent time in the Saskatchewan North prospecting.  In my second career I drew custom house designs and then moved on to designing/drawing architectural and structural pre-cast for major projects from high-rises to bridges.  I entered into adult education in 1983 and have been involved at various levels from Curriculum Developer to Instructor to Program Coordinator and Acting Dean.  I am currently Program Head for the Wascana Campus, SIAST Applied Arts Programs in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

I went through the portfolio submission process with the Saskatchewan Professional Photographers Association (SPPA) and the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC), and have been an active member since 1997.  I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Vocational Technical Education and Graduate Classes from the University of Regina, and a Certificate in Photography from the New York Institute of Photography.  Not quite a straight line of career advancement into professional photography but it has all been interesting and throughout everything I have always made sure that photography has been an integral part.

What is Stock Photography?

I am a stock photographer.  Frequent requests cross my desk for photographs illustrating a whole range of corporate and lifestyle concepts involving people of all backgrounds.  The requests cover broad categories of activities in the workplace, at home, at play and at school, illustrating positive concepts of success, community commitment, family life and coping with various elements of life.

Stock photographs are photographs that are made available for client use by the photographer or the photographer's stock agent.  Statistically speaking, only a small percentage of the stock photographs are used by clients, but potential models need to understand that the images in which they appear could be used in text books, magazines, company brochures, annual reports, advertisements or other commercial uses.  The people (and some property), appearing in any photographs will need to sign a model release granting their understanding of and consent to publication of their image.  These images are kept in my stock files for possible publication use.

Polaroid SX 70 Images

All Images Copyright Wayne Inverarity

This is a style of imaging that has come and gone out of fashion a few times, but I still do it because it is, quite frankly, fun to do.  The used camera equipment can be obtained very inexpensively, really any Polaroid camera that can handle the SX 70 film type.  Film can still be purchased but can cost you more than the camera!  This can be more than just fun of course, there can be commercial applications.  A provincial ad campaign was shot by Paul Austring Studio last year using this technique very effectively.

Cypress Hills Photo Workshops

I and three other professional photographers do a series of photographic workshops each year in the Cypress Hills.  This is a beautiful region of the world, straddling the Alberta, Saskatchewan border.  For those who have never visited the Cypress Hills it is a pleasant surprise with high hills covered in trees, abundant wildlife and flowers and plants, many found only in this  area.

The only complaint we have had, is that "the food was way too good, we ate too much!"
